Batman: Arkham Asylum

This is a Batman game! I ended up having a blast with this game. The fighting is smooth and satisfying. The boss fights can be difficult at times, but never too difficult. It's a very linear game, which can be nice, but I'm looking forward to City that is more open world.

The criticism I do have is there was no satisfaction for me to go after the riddlers trophies. If I came across one, cool, but I wasn't going out of my way to find them. Also, the game was slow to start. It felt repetitive until I started unlocking more gear and abilities.

Those are small nitpick things. All in all this is a great game and I recommend it.

This was a game changer. Arkham Asylum and City were the only two from the series I owned. I loved gritty and dark theme of the game. The fighting mechanics were impressive to watch too.

Massive improvement to the last batman game I had played before this one, which was Batman Forever on SNES.

The first time you hang from a Gargoyle and yank a thug up and hang him from the Gargoyle, you can't help but whisper to yourself in that voice, "I'm Batman." Then...I giggled like a complete psychopath when another thug stood beneath his cohort hanging by his ankle with the blood rushing to his head and I threw a Batarang and cut the second thug down on top of his buddy and everyone starts freaking out. The level of detail is impressive in the way you can take thugs out. The rhythmic fighting was magnificent.
Then...whoever had the idea needs to be given all the raises...but they got Conroy and Hamil to reprise their animated series roles. I had no idea when I booted the game up that they were going to grab my childhood by the haunches and yank me up.
Finally, the things they did to give the Super-Villains/bosses distinct fights/conflicts was great. It wasn't just a beat 'em up. The Killer Croc interaction, Bane, of course Scarecrow, etc.
Perfect experience...that will only be eclipsed when City comes out.

I played Arkham City before Asylum and that probably ruined the perfect 5-star rating from me. That said, loved the gameplay and story and the mechanics were solid.
