Baldur's Gate is a fantasy role-playing video game developed by BioWare and published in 1998 by Interplay Entertainment. It is the first game in the Baldur's Gate series and takes place in the Forgotten Realms, a high fantasy campaign setting, using a modified version of the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons (AD&D) 2nd edition rules. It was the first game to use the Infinity Engine for its graphics, with Interplay using the engine for other Forgotten Realms-licensed games, including the Icewind Dale series, and Planescape: Torment. The game's story focuses on a player-made character who finds themselves travelling across the Sword Coast alongside a party of companions.

Great game. Played to just before the final boss twice. Loved the story, really wish I had finished it, but both times, right as I was approaching the final boss, my harddrive crashed and I lost everything. So great game, but loses a star due to its tendency to destroy my harddrives.
As for revisiting the game today (even with the enhanced editions), its rough to play. And it runs on old d&d rules, so if you got used to how things worked in BG3, or Table Top D&D, it won't help you in this game. And the game can be brutally tough sometimes. I had my first random encounter when I tried replaying recently, it was 8 bandits. I was level 1 still, have one other party member, and got absolutely destroyed. Brutal. But if you can get past that, great dialogue and story!

I think I get hung up on the fact I didn't understand the armor system on this game. Other than that it was a great game

If you like Dungeons and Dragons, this is the game. It is based on AD&D 2nd edition rules and has a good story line. Typical help and kill quests along the way. You can get your fix all by your lonesome.
